# Switch from Patreon to Fanful: migration guide

A practical migration checklist for creators evaluating Fanful as a Patreon alternative.

## Migration posture

Avoid surprising paying patrons. Move benefits and member experiences in phases, keep Patreon renewal expectations clear, and only migrate paid access after every tier promise has an obvious Fanful destination.

## Migration stages

### 1. Inventory the current stack
List what Patreon currently owns before changing any live fan-facing path.

- List tiers, benefits, posts, patrons, one-time purchases, fulfillment promises, member-only media, and community habits.
- Decide which benefits can move first without breaking active patron expectations.

### 2. Map fan jobs into Fanful
Decide which jobs should become native Fanful surfaces and which should remain linked or temporarily external.

- Creators who want memberships tied to an owned site, commerce, lessons, media, live rooms, and public roadmap transparency.
- Separate content, commerce, membership, community, lesson, live, email, and analytics needs so each one has an owner.

### 3. Run in parallel before cutover
Keep the source platform live while the Fanful destination is checked by humans and agents.

- Keep a clear renewal and cancellation plan so paid supporters know whether they remain on Patreon during the transition.
- Map each tier benefit to a Fanful module: membership, media, shop, lesson, live room, post, or community.

## Data map

| Source data | Fanful destination | Handling note |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Tiers, benefits, patrons, and billing expectations | Membership plans and access rules | Map every promised benefit before inviting patrons into Fanful. |
| Member posts, media, polls, and comments | Protected content, media, and community surfaces | Choose whether archives need to move or whether Fanful starts with new benefits. |
| One-time purchases and commerce offers | Shop offers and fan history | Keep Patreon authoritative for historical purchases until imports are verified. |
| Creator page and public membership pitch | Owned membership landing page | Publish a transition note before changing active patron calls to action. |

## Cutover checks

- The Fanful comparison page for Patreon still describes the tradeoff honestly.
- Every migrated fan path has a fallback link to the old platform during the transition.
- Paid access, export rights, and email consent are documented before any audience import.
- The markdown guide mirrors the browser guide so agents can audit the migration plan.
